The Open Air Museum of the Houses of Comtoises
Located in Nancray, it presents the heritage of Franche-Comté on a 16-hectare park: rural habitat from the 17th to the 19th century, gardens and vegetable gardens, animals, animations... Not to be missed as soon as the fine weather arrives.
Ornans and the Musée Courbet
Ornans, the little Venice of the Comtoise, invites you to discover its houses on the Loue, its old private mansions, its bridges and its fountains... Nature is also honoured here... Mountains, cliffs, rivers, waterfalls, caves... An extensive heritage to discover throughout the seasons. It is not surprising that Gustave Courbet, a great 19th century painter and master of the realistic current, born in Ornans and very attached to this land, painted the landscapes of the Valleys of the Loue and Lison all his life.
A magnificent museum is dedicated to him. Located 500 meters from our establishment, it is the essential visit. Discover or rediscover the sulphurous history of this great painter and his works, from the most famous to the most confidential.
The Source of the Loue
The source spring of the Loue towards Ouhans is located at the bottom of a valley dominated by impressive cliffs that inspired Courbet many times over. As for that at Lison, clinging to the village of Nans under Sainte Anne, it springs into a very green basin before falling in a cascade into a basin that feeds the river. The show is fascinating after a heavy rainy period.
If you have children, they'll love the Dino-zoo! As its name suggests, it is a park in which dinosaurs are found...life-size! Over 2.5 km, discover no less than 80 dinosaur sculptures with their explanatory panels.
The Poudrey Chasm
Also remember to visit the Poudrey Chasm, the largest landscaped chasm in France and one of the 10 largest in Europe. The visit takes place on a specially designed route with a magnificent sound and light show highlighting the richest part of the cave. Amazement guaranteed!
